When everything shut down back in 2020, our Method Week options got pretty limited—we had to do the bulk of them fully remote. Method Week № 11–13 were under the Create theme and were done in isolation.

When Create rolled around again for № 15, we were excited to switch things up a bit.

This time, we split off into teams of two, forming 14 dynamic duos that completed some of the most creative, impressive projects we’ve seen yet.

Jack & Marcus

Our Australian-American team did 3 things in one: A video, custom animation, and a class on drink-making. If you count the creation of Marcus’s alter-ego, Tiki Keith, that makes four. “Who’s Tiki Keith?” you ask. This video will explain all you need to know.

Megan & Mari

Megan and Mari took advantage of their rare no-meeting bliss and chose a relaxed cooking project. They made braised short ribs, potatoes, canlis salad, and a massive cookie. The two had planned to use the spare time to catch up on things they didn’t usually have capacity for but they ended up using those moments for some good ol’ quality time instead.

Esteban & Nicole

Esteban and Nicole tackled Cyanotypes, a non-silver photo process originally used for blueprints. They creatively applied the method to photography to produce some really incredible art. A highly-abridged version of the cyanotype process is captured below!

Bart & Ben

The killer B’s took on a music project. Bart had a song idea but was relatively new to recording. Ben had no song idea but had some recording experience. And so, they joined forced to produce a short little tune about — naturally — the apocalypse. You can listen to it here.

Terri & Nina

This duo took Shibori dyeing, a Japanese technique that involves bunching, binding and dyeing with indigo. The resulting patterns can be both geometric and organic.

Because one art form wasn’t enough, they also explored Paper Marbling. The colors are floated on water, then transferred to paper for a final product. Easier said than done, but the final result was awesome.

Tony & Katy

Though the original idea involved something NFT-related, Tony and Katy decided they had enough screen time in their day jobs. They wanted to create something with their hands. Combining Tony’s background in screen printing with Katy’s desire to get back into painting, they ended up settling on monoprinting with a painting spin.

Monoprinting is the process of creating individual prints using printing plates or silkscreens in combination with water-based inks or paint. After a little research and experimentation, they walked away with several rad creations.

Sarah & Edgar

Sarah and Edgar joined forces around their love for photography and art. Collaborating remotely, Sarah spent some time taking pictures around Savannah, GA while Edgar took turned them into collages back in Austin.

Edgar built a little website for the project that has a full gallery of all the images. Check it out here!

Hilary & Lindsey

With one person in California and the other in Ohio, this duo put their brains together and devised a project that could be tackled remotely.

They invented a new product using a common problem that pregnant women — and probably anyone else who’s been to a doctor’s office— face: the urinal specimen cup.

They did their research and realized that there isn’t a good, eco-friendly solution out there. So they ended up designing and protoyping one of their own. The one that does exist, Klean Katch, isn’t ergonomic.

Serena & Alessandra

The mama-to-be, Serena, and Alessandra put together a maternity photoshoot with props and backdrops. Over 1,100 photos were taken!

Paige & Brooke

After brainstorming on what to do, Paige and Brooke landed on jewelry-making. Approaching it with different techniques—Paige with resin and metals and Brooke with wire wrapping—they each came out with unique pieces.

Dina & Lee

These two paired together were a lean, mean, coding machine. Both of them, with a passion for development, dug their heels into creating something with code. With our career ladders hot off the press, they decided to create a way to dynamically populate a spider chart. But that wasn’t all. They also created a tool for a new Funsize podcast (coming soon).

Darío & Lindsay

Ready, set, BAKE.

They might not have been in a baking competition but they tore up the kitchen like they were. Arroz con Leche, “Death by chocolate” Cake, and Rosé Rife Cupcakes were on the menu. The team were lucky enough to be the taste testers and everything was fantastic. Next step for them: apply to Netflix’s Sugar Rush?

Natalie & Anthony

Being parents and business owners, they don’t have much time for home improvement projects. So, they took the week to tackle things that they’ve been wanting to do like building shelves in an unused closet space.

As part of “Create”, Natalie also created a surprise Italy-themed baby shower for our Operations Manager, Serena.

Theresa & Andre

Practically on opposite sides of the world, Theresa shared her fascination with South African culture (because that’s where she was in the world at the time) and they rolled with it as inspiration.

They both cooked a shared recipe, Cape Malay Curry, and then got into the importance of the the qongqothwane, a knocking beetle, in South African culture and how the beetle inspires the traditional song of the Xhosa people that brings good fortune to couples at weddings.

Method Week Wrap-Up

At the end of the week, we all shared and showcased our creations and celebrated with a create-your-own birria taco night, hosted by our friends at Assembly.co.

Thanks for reading! Look out for our “Learn” coming up in June.
